GTBank Appoints Osaretin Demuren As New Chairman

Nigeria’s top tier lender, Guaranty Trust Bank Plc (GTBank) said its set to appoint Nigeria’s first female director of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Osaretin Afusat Demuren as new chairman of the bank, the lender said Tuesday in its corporate disclosure to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).
The bank in a letter to the NSE, said demuren’s appointment is coming on the heels of the impending retirement of Egbert Ulogo Imomoh the current chairman in line with GTBank’s succession plan.
The lender says Demuren had a successful career with the CBN which spanned over 33 years, during which she served as director, trade and exchange department and was redeployed to serve as director, human resources department in 2004, a position she held until her retirement from the apex bank in December 2009.
She holds a Masters Degree in Economics and Statistics from the Moscow Institute of Economics and Statistics, Moscow, and a Diploma in Russian Language and Preliminary Studies from the Kiev State University, Kiev.
GTBank says Demuren is a member of many professional associations including the society of Human Resources Management of America, Nigerian Statistical Association, Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria.
Demuren joined the board of the bank in April 2013 and has served as a member of the board risk management committee from April 2013 and became the chairman of the committee in July, 2014.
She also served as a member board remuneration committee and information technology strategy committee.
At the end of today’s session, share price of the bank climbed up 5.00 percent to N26.25 from N25.00 recorded on Monday; gaining N1.25.
