Okonjo-Iweala, Sanusi Honoured by Oduduwa University

The Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, have been awarded the Honourary Causa of Accounting and Economics respectively.
The award was bestowed on them during the maiden convocation of the Oduduwa University, Ile Ife, Osun State.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Adeleke Ogunwale, said the award was in recognition of Okonjo-Iweala and Sanusi’s contributions to the growth of the Nigerian economy.
Ogunwale explained the university’s Senate particularly noted the roles played by the minister in debt relief, the current budget and structural reforms and management of the nation’s fiscal deficit.
On the other hand, he said Sanusi’s banking reform programme which had been acknowledged internationally excited the governing council of the university
In his response, the CBN governor said: “I am happy that the minister and I were honoured today by the same institution. It is a good reflection of the realisation by Nigerians of the importance of managing the economy and keeping it strong for all of us.
“I will also say that while we both recognise that the gross domestic product growth, inflation, exchange rate and fiscal deficit are under control, we will like to say that we will have to continue pursuing the structural reforms that will ensure that growth translate into improvement in the life of the average man.”
On her part, Okonjo-Iweala expressed the commitment of the federal government in tackling the challenges facing tertiary education in the country.
“The government knows that it needs to do more as the years pass by, but I am assuring that the political will to support the improvement of tertiary education in this country is very high in the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.
